Today is the 55th anniversary of my brother, Dennis, being killed in Vietnam.
Passing years do have a dulling effect, but you never get over it.
I still have the stereo cabinet he built in high school woodshop. He was gifted in ways that were stolen from the world.
The lost lives of young men and women soldiers and the collateral damage (I hate that phrase!) of the destruction of little children’s lives in war prompted me to write this poem. Sophia is fictional, yet so very real. Her name is a play on words which allude to her experiential wisdom.
Thank you, Jerry!
Thank you, Todd. Such terrible loss. So much loss in war. May you know the Spirits comforting presence and have strength to continue telling the story and calling us to lives of peace as you have done beautifully in your poem. Jerry Reddix
